Welcome to Unleash the Awesome with Dave Gambrill. All of us have unique skills, talents, and abilities that aren't being used to their full potential. Our mission is to share the people, tools, apps, and other resources that will help you unleash your awesome on the world. Yo, what's up. It's Dave. Welcome to another episode of unleashed the awesome today.
Let's talk about, do it now. Do it now, do it now, do it. Now do it. Now I was at an event over the last couple of days called unlock the secret. It's hosted by Russell Brunson of ClickFunnels, and it's really a closed conference. It's only open to people that are in his coaching programs, mentoring programs, his inner circle,
stuff like that. So it's not open to the public. And the focus of it is young entrepreneurs. So there was probably, I don't know, two or three young kids or teenagers there for every adult in the audience. And maybe there was like 800 to a thousand people, something like that, but basically one to two, two to three kids for every adult.
And it was more of a workshop setting than anything else. It was set up so that there were people talking from stage and then they would set a timer. Some of them on the conference room, side thing and say, okay, based on everything, I taught you over the last 30 minutes, 45 minutes. Now let's work on it. Let's work on it for the next 15 minutes,
next 20 minutes, whatever. So one of the speakers talked about doing really funny or engaging ads for Facebook, YouTube, whatever, wherever, you know, you're, you're hosting your ads. And she mentioned a lot of things that are pretty funny and pretty out there. And for most adults who are kind of stodgy and buttoned up, it would be a little bit of a stretch,
but she said, okay, here's the deal. You go and make your videos. I'll give you 20 minutes. You can go out in the main area there in the lobby there, you could do a right here in the room, whatever, upload them to my website and we'll pick a winner at the end of the conference or, or whatever. And so she put the challenge out there.
And the fascinating thing was while the adults were sitting around trying to plan and strategize and think and overthink and think some more, the kids either took their own phone or the phones of the parents. And just went off into the corners of the conference room or out in the main area there and started shooting videos. They didn't think about it. They didn't overthink about it.
They didn't obsess over it. They didn't get stuck in analysis paralysis. They just did it. They just freaking did it. And JFD I. And so that kind of made an impression on me. I'm like, wow, look at those kids. They don't have that filter of fear or worrying about what people are going to think about it. If they're going to get haters,
which is something I talked about. One of the previous episodes of this podcast, haters are required. The haters are coming. I'll make sure I put that link in the show notes for if you want to listen to it, but the haters are coming. They're coming anyway. But these kids, these teenagers, what did not worry about it at all.
So then we had another speaker who came up and started talking about w Clement stone, who, for those of you that may not know he was the original founder of what we now know as success magazine. He also, co-authored some books with Napoleon hill mentored auger, man, Dino, who also did some personal development type books and publishing things like that.
And so he kind of swam in the same circles as them. And it's, there's a story that goes about him that says, he said, do it now to himself a hundred times a day, he wrote it down. He said it out loud, do it now, do it. Now, do it. Now do it. Now do it now.
So when he had an idea or something that he wanted to execute on, it was critical to him that he do it immediately as fast as possible. And if you look back through history, he was a pretty successful guy. The people that hung out with him, Napoleon hill augment Dino. Some of these other people turned out to be pretty successful people because they believed in this idea of do it.
Now, do it now, do it. Now do it. Now do it now. And I ran into one of my mentors, John Maxwell, a couple of years ago at a conference. And he talked about this same thing, do it now. And John also talks about this thing called the law of diminishing intent, which basically says the further you get away from an idea or concept or a thing that you want to do,
the less likely it is that you're going to do it. So as adults, we all come up with ideas. We all come up with thoughts. We all have things that we want to do. And it's really easy to let fear get in the way to let analysis paralysis get in the way it's easy to put it off until another day. But if you have already come up with an idea for something,
then there's a really good chance that you are already are sourced with the information that you need to make. That thing happen. You may not be able to see it very easily, but when you step in the direction of doing it, right, there's that quote that I always mangle and give improper credit to or attribution to. But you know, that says something along the lines of like,
when you step in the direction of your dreams, it seems like the world just conspires to help you. Right? And part of that reason is which I talked about in the last episode of this podcast movement brings clarity. So as you're on the path, as you're doing the thing, as you're doing it now, it seems like all of these things just quote a pop up around you that you never saw before that were,
but were probably there. You probably just didn't recognize them. All these things pop up to help you on your journey to help you on your path, to help you achieve your goals, to chase down those dreams that you've been trying to chase down, but it doesn't happen if you don't take action. It doesn't happen. If you just sit around, I'll give you one more example from this conference,
unlock the secrets. There was another speaker, Rachel Pedersen, friend of mine who got up there and was talking about Tik TOK. And she was giving you all the reasons why Tik TOK is a great platform to be engaged in right now. And you know, the parents were not really buying into it because they're like, ah, Tik TOK, that's for kids.
And I don't want to have to dance and point and saying, and lip sync and do all this stuff. And she was like, look, you don't wanna have to do that. And she gave a really good presentation on the things that you could do and the things that are working really well in the platform right now. But she did a similar thing where she gave a challenge.
She said, Hey, go, you know, put a timer up here. Or, you know, before the end of the next lunch session break or whatever, do a tech talk and tag me in it. She has over a million of followers on Tik TOK in a very short period of time. So she's has figured out this platform, she said,
tag me in it and I'll make sure I comment or share it or like it, or whatever the case may be to help you get some more traction on the platform. And as you would expect, the same exact thing happened. Many of the kids were like, okay, cool. And they just literally started doing right there. Maybe some of the younger adults started doing it,
but most of the adults were just obsessing about it and overthinking it, not doing it, whatever. And even me who I have a minimal presence on Tik TOK, I'll put my link in the show notes. Should you want to check me out in there? I think I have all of like six videos on there up to this point. I was like,
oh, what am I going to do? What am going to talk about? But Rachel gave us very specific things we could talk about. She gave us this list of like 53 titles or hooks that you could use in your tick talks to get people's attention. And I was like, oh, why don't I just follow the exact instructions I just got from somebody who's been very successful with this de success leaves clues.
Right. So I was like, okay. So as people left the conference room, I stood up with my phone on Tik TOK and said, Hey, here's one of the biggest things I'm learning at this event, unlock the secrets and started talking about some of the stuff that I'm actually sharing with you right now on this podcast. And I did it and was,
I was, we were coming back from lunch. I was asking the kids. I was like, Hey, did you do your thing? Did you do your thing? And they're like, yeah, I did my TikTok. You want to see it? And a lot of them were showing me and they were proud of what they did. Some of them are funny.
Some of them were just straight to the point. And as I asked the adults, listen, a hundred percent of the adults that I asked, which was probably 25 to 30 people. A hundred percent of them said, no. Did you do your tic-tac now? Did you do your tic-tac? No, not yet. Did you do your ticktack note?
I mean, it literally took about 60 seconds of my time. All right. 90 seconds. By the time I captured it and put it out there right when I did it. And it was probably the same for everybody else, but these people just didn't do it. And do you think any of those 20 or 30 people are going to do it or have done it since my guess is no,
because the moment has passed. They over-thought, it, they obsessed over it. They didn't think it was important and maybe they just aren't going to do it. That's fine. But I'm pretty sure most of those people started to see the value and Tik TOK through Rachel's presentation. Cause it was really good even. I was like, all right, I probably need to spend some time on that platform for various reasons.
And one of the reasons she gave, which I'll give you a key takeaway that I might share to future podcasts, but she said you can use tic-tac to do trailers for some of your other long form content. So maybe if you have a podcast like this one, like I do, you could do a quick 32nd or 62nd, like hot take or trailer on Tik TOK.
And then say, you know, the rest of it's on my podcast, you can listen to the whole thing. Or I have a YouTube video where I do a deep dive on it, you know, click here to check it out or whatever. So you can use Tik TOK in that way. So there's a little bonus takeaway for you. But what I really wanted to impress upon you today is if you think something is worth doing,
if something comes across your mind that you should be doing, or your mentor says, you should do this thing, figure out a way to do it as quickly as humanly possible, because the longer you wait, the less likely it is, you're going to do it. And the quicker you do it, the faster you get some momentum, the faster it opens your mind to,
right? Because you're consciously engaged in it. And so then your subconscious mind, if there's a lot of science to back this up, we're not going to get into it today. But when you consciously are doing something and are on the path of something, your subconscious mind will start to search for solutions or ways to help you, right. Have you ever been ever been thinking about a problem or doing something and then you get challenged and then you're doing something simple,
like maybe just walking the dog or you're in the shower. And all of a sudden this idea pops into your head about a solution to your problem, right? That's your subconscious mind at work, trying to help with these things, but your subconscious mind can't work with you. If you aren't doing the work yourself, whatever that is. So if you think you need to be doing Facebook lives or launching a podcast or building your email list or whatever it is for you in your business or your life,
whatever you were trying to succeed with, do it now, like take a step in the direction of doing that thing. And that doesn't mean just write it down or put it in your Trello or however you track your projects. Like no taking meaningful action. Do it now. W Clement stone says it makes sense. John Maxwell says that make sense. Many of the people that I follow right for success and things like that say it makes sense.
I don't, I don't know how you could say it doesn't make sense. Right? Unless you're not going to do this thing where you're going to say, well, I'm busy. I have, you know, I have kids and a job and whatever, and this is just my side hustle. I don't have time. Okay. So make it a priority.
Maybe you can't do it right. The second, maybe you're listening to this podcast as you're driving home or you're in traffic. And he know you got to go home and feed the kids and go to soccer practice. Okay. I get it. But before the day ends do whatever that thing is, figure it like some of you will say, well,
I'm not camera ready. I can't do my tic-tac or I can't do my Facebook live or can't do an Instagram reel or whatever. No, you can do some of those things without even having your face on it. There are ways to make it happen. Listen, if you want something to happen, you're either going to figure out a way to make it happen,
or you're going to figure out the excuses as to why it can't happen. That's it. Right. So if you're listening to me now and you're already starting to think like, I can't do this, I can't do that. But that is exactly the reason why you should be doing it, right. You say, I should do this. I should do that.
As Tony Robbins says, stop shoulding all over yourself and just do it. So my encouragement to you today is just do it, just do it, just do it. And when you just do it, you will find that it will help you and the others around you unleash your awesome on the world. See you. Thanks for listening to unleash the awesome.
